Baylor Homecoming--Part 1

Baylor Homecoming: a weekend I look forward to every fall.  It's a tradition that we've had in my family for years and it's so fun watching the boys enjoying it as well.

Like last year, the weekend started with a trip to the Waco Zoo.  This is the best zoo I've been to hands down!  I highly recommend it!  I kept telling Connor I had a surprise for him; he didn't know about the zoo, or that Mimi and Papa Jud were going to be there, or that these people were going to be there:

ADDY!!!

and AVA!!!
When Connor and Addy first saw each it I think it took a minute to register, but not long for them to start giggling and having so much fun together.
Here is a slide show of the all the fun they had together: (does anyone know how to post a slide show on here without having the click on the link?  Slide.com doesn't work anymore)

Then it was time for the Baylor Homecoming Festivities--Part 2 soon to come.

Birthday Party

Happy Birthday to our favorite Papa Jud!!!  A couple of weekends ago we had a 65th birthday party for him and his two friends.

Bubba Watson (left) Papa Jud (center) Jimmy Owen (right)

These three men were all born one day apart: Bubba on 11/7, Dad on 11/8 and Jimmy on 11/9, all grew up together and even raised their kids together.  All three of their parents (our grandparents) were good friends as well.  Then Bubba's wedding anniversary is 2/16, my birthday is 2/17 and Jimmy's daughter, Jill's birthday is 2/18--same order.  I'm hoping that even though they will be 2 years apart, we keep the tradition for 3 generations as Reid's birthday is 3/31 and Jill is pregnant due the first of April!!

We had a hometown 65th birthday party for these men and a great time was had by all!!

 Josh cooked the fajitas!
And Jason and Tanner cut the meat

The wives: Sue Owen, Linda Watson, Mimi
Connor and Mimi sang Happy Birthday

Connor-isms

Connor is such a hoot!  He's always been so full of life and it's fun to watch and feed off of his excitement about everything.  He's also very intelligent, but I know as his mom I'm supposed to say that.  Not too long ago, a gentleman in a restaurant overheard Connor talking and came over to tell us how intelligent he sounded!
He makes up words pretty much on a daily basis.  I add and will continue to add to this list often, but here are some that I could remember:
Goning--When the garbage truck goes away and you get sad
Sonsiladas---Enchiladas that are so good they taste like cookies
Stinger--Another word for splinter
Shouser--A loud noise
Clicker--Another word for blinker
Foche--Something to do with sticks and leaves (he prayed for this at dinner one night)
Regly--Something that is not real
Crashulations--When something fits on you
Sodder--When you can't stop crying or go to sleep
Bus Taker--Another word for bus driver
Subatoday--Another word for store
See Snake--A snake that lives in water and sees things. When he sees boats he eats them then goes back into the water and men have to clean up the beach.
Hookers--Another word for hooks on a wall
Grubbaling--When you lie in a bath tub then shout up and yell "Hooray!"
Shockers--Things that jump out and get you when you go down the slide
And some more funny phrases and things he's said:
I was sunburned on the back of my shoulders from being out at a ball game, and was in the mirror looking at it. Connor said, "Mommy, do you like yourself?"
His friend, Peyton, told Connor she wanted to marry him and they were going to have 2 babies.  So out of the blue one day Connor told me that Peyton is "earning" him a baby.  I asked him what that meant and he said, "when you have two babies, someone has to earn one, so Peyton is earning one for me."

"You're a good jobber" means you do something well.
"I'm going to choice you" means Connor will give you 2 choices.
"Mommy I have A LOT of fur on my legs and I really need you to cut it."

We were driving in the car and I hear Connor naming everything he saw, not taking a breath.  Then after a while he said, "Amen." I asked him if he was praying and he said, "yes I am just thanking God for everything."
Sometimes when Reid is being silly I say, "Reid, you are something else."  Since Connor repeats everything, he started telling Reid that.  Then he looked at me and said, "well what is he?"

He loooooves school this year, and so do we! Some parents say their kids don't tell them much, but Connor tells us every detail.  We know what they did all day, who was absent, who cried because they missed their mommy, who fell asleep once in class... It's so fun to hear about everything! I just hope this is how it is in about 10 years from now!

We had open house at his school last week and got to meet his science and music teacher.  Here's what they had to say about Connor:
Music teacher, "Connor is so enthusiastic and I can tell he really loves to sing! Most boys at this age aren't into music but he really gets into it and remembers all the words and motions."  When I told her that we sing quite a bit at our house she said she could definitely tell!!

Science teacher, "Connor is SO enthusiastic and bright. He's like a sponge because he remembers everything I teach him. I'm so glad to have him in my class and really enjoy teaching him!"

Leander ISD has a free program where a girl comes to our house once a month to work with and observe the boys with their development.  Today she worked with Connor on activities that get him geared toward reading.  He did very well, and in fact is on the 5-6 year old level!!
But all this brain power needs a rest at times
And of course we can't leave out Reid.  A brother blog soon to come...

Pumpkin Patches

We were able to visit a few pumpkin patches this year.  One in Livingston, one at our YMCA and then one at church.  I love this time of year!
