Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

The lovely 70 degree weekends we've had lately doesn't exactly scream winter, nor snow.   But that was not the case in beautiful Estes Park, Colorado where the boys experienced their first White Christmas!!! [Insert Bing Crosby singing "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas."]

Here they are on the bus to the airport. They were so excited to see all the airplanes.
When we arrived at the airport, look who was at our gate:
Thank you Southwest Airlines!!

Now why I thought flying with a very rowdy 20 month old and 3 year old was a good idea is beside me.  Our flight out there had 2 stops, which deemed challenging with those rowdy boys!  BUT they finally fell asleep for a little bit on the last leg:

MeMaw flew in that day as well and was waiting to pick us up at the airport.  A snowstorm was coming in and it was beginning to get dark so we needed to hurry and get up the mountain.  Poor Reid was suffering from an ear infection and stomach problems.  So as we're driving up the mountain, pitch black, snow falling down, Reid begins throwing up, and continues for quite some time.  There is no place to pull over (because we are literally on the side of a mountain!) and slipping on ice.  Josh takes his shirt off and I just place it over Reid until we get to the house.  Poor guy!!!  After we showered and headed to bed, we awoke the next morning to find this:

We stayed warm and cozy watching it snow the first day.  Later that evening we built a fire and roasted marshmallows.

 Mmmm! S'mores, Mommy's favorite!!
Look at Reid checking out Josh's s'more!
The next 5 days were gorgeous! The sun was out and it was perfect for playing in the snow.  Connor really enjoyed playing it,  but Reid, not so much.  He refused to wear gloves so he'd get upset as soon as his hands were cold.  Maybe the next time we go he'll enjoy it more.  I will warn you, this is picture overload here but when I go to Estes Park, I just can't help myself!

Connor's favorite thing (and mine too!) was sledding.  It was so much fun!!
 Snow Angel!

Josh and Connor made the coolest (literally) snowman!!  Connor's Mother's Day Out school has been talking about snowmen the past couple of weeks so he brought this picture for show & tell!

We were standing on a frozen lake, which Connor thought was pretty neat.

 Such a big help!

The night before Christmas, MeMaw and Connor made cookies for Santa:

Notice the green icing on Connor's face and hair. Reid, our little stinker, turned on the mixer, which MeMaw was using the mix the icing.  Green icing went everywhere!!!  We were finding it for days!

Here are the yummy cookies for Santa!

Opening up, playing with and trying on all of our Christmas gifts on Christmas morning:

Reid enjoys being naked, even when it's 10 degrees outside.  It is like wrestling an alligator sometimes just to get his clothes on!

He kept running up to the tree, posing, and saying "Cheese!"

There is wildlife everywhere and most are pretty friendly.  We would throw our leftover food out and within minutes we had visitors (note: do not do this in the summer unless you want bears to visit, and they might not be so friendly!)
Here he is eating leftover chicken that MeMaw cooked:
If you look closely, you can see a tortilla hanging out of his mouth!  Who knew deer liked tortillas?!?
Connor was on the porch talking to his new friend, whom he named "Collie."

The library in Estes Park is really great for kids.  They have a train table that the boys love and we just happened to get there when it was story and music time.

 Playing a big drum

Oh yeah, and did I forget to mention that we saw Santa again on Christmas Eve? He and Mrs.Claus were at church. A funny little story: while we were sitting in the service Connor had to go to the restroom. He hops up like he knows where he is going and opens a door. Quickly a woman jumps up and closes the door, showing him where the restroom in. As soon as we got into the restroom, Connor was very serious and you could tell he was thinking. He said, "Mommy I just opened the door and saw Santa and Mrs.Claus. Santa said hi to me, but I didn't tell him hi back. " Thankfully they were already dressed when Connor walked in on them!!

The Methodist Church is Estes is so kid friendly! And on a side note, we were talking to the greeter and come to find out, before moving to Estes she lived in Austin and was a member at the church we go to now!

More pictures of us hanging out at the cabin:

Our family picture!! Believe it or not, I am underneath that pile!!
Again, Reid running over to the tree, posing and saying, "Cheese!"

Getting ready to play in the snow.

Guess what he's doing here...
 Running, posing, CHEESE
And saying goodbye to the snow and the mountains :(

Marne gave the boys some blankets and, as you can see, Connor enjoyed his on the way home.  He covered his whole head up and went to sleep.  We finally got home at 1:15am!!

As always, it was a wonderful trip and I look forward to going back soon!!

Christmas Part 2 still to come...
