Recently we held Drew's FIRST birthday party at our house. FIRST! We kept it pretty low key with close family and friends and decided on an outdoor party complete with burgers and a slip and slide.
Well...mother nature had other plans. We got to enjoy the outdoors for about 15 minutes before it began to pour down rain!! So everyone grabbed what we could grab and headed inside. The Olympics were on, so we just figured we'd gather around the TV and watch that...until the TV went out!!! So, now we have a house full of people and can't watch the finals of gymnastics and swimming (which, in my opinion, are the best two!) Are you ready for the next part?!? THE ELECTRICITY GOES OUT!!!
So let's recap...
--Storming outside
--A house full of people
--No TV
--No electricity
And if anyone knows Texas in August, it's HOT!!! So let's add that to the list! I bought everything to have hamburgers on the grill, but did I mention I have no patio covering?!? So Josh and his buddy Chris move the grill as close to the house as they can, and hold a big umbrella over them. Oh, wait, it gets better. Because the grill is so close to the backdoor, every time the door is open, THE SMOKE ALARM GOES OFF! Y'all, I can't make this stuff up.
So to say Drew's first birthday was memorable is an understatement. But nevertheless, we made the best of it and had a good time. This should definitely bring laughs for years to come!
The one and only picture I took before the rain came.
My sweet friends, Shannon and Dede
I brought out about 50+ glow sticks that I had. The kids had a ball making jewelry, swords, etc out of them, and also placed them all over the house. I was finding glow sticks for a week afterwards!
The food by candlelight
Papa Jud, cousin Denton, Uncle Jason
Josh grilling in the rain, under the umbrella
Drew eating his cake with me holding the flashlight over him!!
The party was The Big ONE so Mimi and I made this fish cake.
He didn't have much expression when it came to eating the icing. BUT...I do think he wasn't feeling that great, plus with everything that had happened, he wasn't his normal cheerful self.
He was flinging icing everywhere, which the kids thought was hilarious
The little fishies that start with Drew turning one month all the way through his first year. Unfortunately, it was dark and no one saw them!!!
Mimi made tackle boxes with worms as party favors
Because it was too dark to open presents, we waited until the morning to open them
His own little kitchen!
He loves the TV remote, so now he has his own!!
It was a fun, memorable birthday that Drew will never remember! But we were glad to experience it with our wonderful family and friends that made the drive to celebrate DREW!
My loves!!
