...gonna catch a big one. We're not afraid; look what's up ahead." That's a favorite book of ours to read. Last weekend we decided to take a family day trip to Topsy, Texas and go on a lion hunt. Although we didn't find a lion, "look whats up ahead!"
This was a drive-thru safari and we all had such a good time. We laughed a lot. I wish I had filmed the boys because Connor was naming all the animals and talking to them. It was a hoot!
The zebras greeted us when we first arrived.
This deer was ready to eat!
Not sure what this animal was, but as you can see, it too, was quite friendly!
They would eat out of our hands and let the kids pet them.
The emus were a little scary looking, but harmless. To be on the safe side, we just threw the food out on the ground instead of having it come up to the window!
Auodad
And here comes Mikey the camel. These animals are huge.
At first he's just peeking in, no big deal. Then low and behold he spots a bag of food, reaches in across Josh, down by his legs, and takes the whole bag of food. He ate the bag too!!
We gassed it before he could come back!!
Having such a good time!!
Reid feeding and petting some deer.
Aoudads. As you can tell, all the animals were very friendly and came right up to the window.
FEED ME!
Antelopes or as Connor kept calling them "cantaloupes."
Reid acting like some of the animals.
Llama, Llama Red Pajama (also a fan favorite book!) Check out those teeth!
Ohhhh the ostriches. These birds are big. And fast. And a little scary.
We rolled up the window and they started eating the truck!
Here is a mama emu and her babies. There were so many of them and so cute!
Pucker up!
This emu started coming at us so we rolled up the window halfway!
We think this was a yak??
Apparently a very hungry yak.
Mikey the camel spotted us again. I'm sure he was thinking, "sucker" when he went to Josh's window but Josh tricked him by opening the window just enough to feed him. Apparently the bag of food he stole from us didn't fill him up!
What's going on in here??
Say CHEESE!
There was a very little petting zoo with goats and birds. This bird was named Knock Knock and the boys loved saying that over and over. As we were leaving we asked them what their favorite animal was and guess what they said?!? Knock, knock!! We could've saved a bunch of money had we known that ahead of time! ;)
We also saw monkeys, a bear, a tiger, a boa constrictor, water buffalos, elk and a few other exotic animals. If anyone in the Austin or Central Texas area is looking for a good outing, I recommend this. We went on a "cooler"day (it was only 90 degrees!) and there weren't many people there, so we took our time with the windows down and it was really nice. Another day into the memory book!
